Acute Nursing ServicesMedical Dorothy Dooley, Nurse Manager Telephone: 028 3083 5000 Wards OutpatientsThis department offers a wide range of services to patients attending – surgical, medical, ENT, ophthalmology, diabetic, paediatric, dermatology, orthopaedic, haematology, neurology and chronic pain management. This department provides outreach clinics from regional hospitals in Belfast. Nurse led ophthalmology and leg ulcer clinics are provided within this department. Extended Care and Respite UnitSr L Moates This is a 32-bedded ward comprising of 26 beds designated to managing and treating patients who require assistance with a significant number of activities of daily living, or who have a level of debility requiring some additional services. The remaining 6 beds provide respite service to patients admitted from home for a period of two weeks to facilitate carers’ needs. Care is provided to patients using a multidisciplinary team approach. Nursing students from Queens University Belfast are allocated to the unit for their practice placements. Female MedicalThis is a 30-bedded acute direct admission ward. Patients with a variety of conditions, e.g. respiratory, cardiovascular, haematological, neurological and autoimmune conditions are treated in this ward. Nursing care is provided using a patient centred care approach. Nursing students from Queens University Belfast are allocated for their practical nursing placements. Coronary Care/Male MedicalSr D Morgan This is a 22-bedded acute direct admission ward. Patients with a variety of conditions, e.g. respiratory, cardiovascular, haematological, neurological and autoimmune conditions are treated in this ward. Nursing students from Queens University Belfast are allocated for their practical nursing placements. Coronary care is a 12-bedded acute unit providing expert treatment and care to patients with acute myocardial infarction, angina pectoris. An emergency response team from the ward for cardiac arrest calls is provided within the hospital. A comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programme is provided to patients before their discharge and the cardiac rehabilitation sister provides follow up to the patients in their home. RehabilitationSr A Harris This is a 30 bedded unit comprising of 10 designated stroke beds and 20 beds designated to rehabilitative nursing. The aim of the unit is to ensure that interventions are targeted to optimise the recovery of the patient and to promote maximum rehabilitation to patients suffering from neurological cardiovascular and orthogeriatric conditions. Care is provided to patients using a multidisciplinary team approach. Nursing students from Queens University Belfast are allocated to the unit for their practice placements. Renal UnitSr K Donegan This is a 22-bedded haemodialysis unit offering dialysis treatment to patients with kidney failure. Patients attending this unit are treated three times weekly. Experienced nurses who are skilled in renal nursing provide nursing care. The unit also provides an outpatient service that includes peritoneal dialysis service. |
