26 June 2008Skills to FosterA number of people from the Craigavon and Banbridge area have taken part in a ‘Skills to Foster’ course organised by the Southern Health and Social Care Trust. ‘Skills to Foster’ is a preparation course for people considering fostering. It aims to give participants a realistic picture of what is involved in fostering and offers information about the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a foster carer. The course which is led by social workers and current foster carers covers the topics: Why Foster Carers are Needed; What Foster Carers Do; Working Together; Safer Caring; Understanding Behaviour; and Moving On. The Trust welcomes applications from anyone who is interested in fostering. You may be single, young or older, employed or unemployed. You don’t necessarily need to be a homeowner but you do need to have space to accommodate a child. Allowances are paid to cover the cost of caring for children.
