25.06.08 Renovation work on children's ward at Craigavon Area Hospital

25 June 2008

Renovation work on children’s ward at Craigavon Area Hospital

The neo-natal unit at Craigavon Area Hospital will be undergoing essential maintenance in August. The work is scheduled to take two weeks and will mean that cots in the unit will transfer to the children’s ward while the work is completed.

A spokesperson for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, said: “To ensure that the work in the neo-natal unit is completed as quickly as possible, and with the safe care of babies a priority, all neo-natal cots will transfer to 3 North while the project is being carried out.

“Substantial structural work is required on 3 North to accommodate the neo-natal cots which will temporarily transfer. The renovation project started at the beginning of June and is on schedule; however, this has resulted in a reduction in bed capacity on the children’s ward.

“We appreciate that the work has caused some disruption to the children’s ward, but are working to keep this to an absolute minimum.

“The work is being carried out during the summer when the children’s ward is traditionally less busy and we are planning to have the full ward up and running again by September.

“We thank all parents and children for their patience while the work is being carried out,” concluded the spokesperson.
