INTRODUCTION:

Behaviour Support Clinics fall into tier two of the service and runs trustwide. The following outlines the overall model of the service.

Tier 1 Primary care non specialist practitioners: GP, Health Visitor, Social Services – mild

Tier 2 Primary Care Specialist practitioners (including Primary Mental health Visitors) – paediatricians, psychologists, CPN Specialist S.W. Barnardos Family Centres PAMs – Mild / Mod

Tier 3 Specialist MD Teams (CAMHs) 4 disciplines at present – Mod / Severe

Tier 4 In patient – 0 – 13 years – Foster Green

14 – 18 years – St Lukes – severe

AIMS:

This clinic offers primary prevention through early intervention in behavioural management for young people and their families. The objective is the preservation of family life through early intervention, enhancing the opportunity to parent positively.

CLINIC BASED SERVICES DELIVERY:

Ø Weekly clinics will operate in each locality which will be responsive to demand

Ø Age range: cut off point is 11 years old consistent with final primary school year.

Ø A behavioural assessment shall be offered to the family on completion of assessment. Advice, guidance and parental education shall be offered and support given to implement advice.

REFERRAL PROCEDURE:

Ø Referral will be accepted by letter from all professionals and agencies within primary care.

Ø Copies of referrals are enclosed.

FEEDBACK ABOUT REFERRALS:

Ø A letter shall be sent to the referring professional which will outline the result of an assessment and the planned intervention. The referrer shall be kept up to date with progress.

NON-ATTENDANCE:

If the first appointment is not attended and there has been no contact then no further appointments will be offered. The referrer and GP will be notified.

If however, someone has attended a first appointment and then do not attend their follow up appointment a letter will be sent asking then to let us know if further appointment are required. Contact time is three weeks.
