Lurgan Hospital’s range of outpatient and outreach services
24/09/2014Lurgan Hospital is a central hub for a range of services for older people in the Craigavon and Banbridge area and provides a range of outpatient and outreach community services including a Day Hospital, Rapid Response Service and clinics for Parkinsons Disease, Continence, Falls, Stroke and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
Angela McVeigh, Director of Older People and Primary Care Services at the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, says: “There are a number of rehabilitation and other services available at Lurgan Hospital including consultant-led medical assessment and review clinics, specialist falls service, and the rapid access clinic for older people who need more urgent review of their medical needs to support them to remain at home and avoid hospital admission.
“Staff members in our new Rapid Response Service for the Craigavon and Banbridge area are based at the Hospital. They will provide medical and nursing care at home to suitable patients and we hope that this service will help us to support our increasing number of older residents who are living with more complex needs.”
Other specialist teams provide programmes and clinics for people with long-term health issues such as heart conditions, respiratory problems and stroke.
“Our aim is help older people stay independent for as long as possible and by providing a range of day services we can support individuals and their carers,” she adds. “Our team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and dietitians have an important role in supporting older people in the Craigavon and Banbridge area.
“By extending our range of outpatients’ services at the site, patients can receive care and treatment at clinics without having to stay overnight.”
