Fit 4 U - On Target

18/01/2012

People with physical and/or sensory disabilities from across the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, recently participated in a Southern Area Archery Competition at Banbridge Leisure Centre.

Participants came from across Armagh, Dungannon, Craigavon, Banbridge, Newry and Mourne.

Individual winners included Cal Morgan, Armagh, William Curran, Dungannon, Nigel Stothers, Banbridge and Tony Lynch, Craigavon. The team competition winners were the Armagh team.

Oliver McKee, from Armagh explains “I am delighted to be part of the winning team, not only was the personal participation a privilege and enjoyment, but it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves. The expression on people’s faces showed how much people enjoyed the event .Archery is a great way of relaxing from the everyday stresses of people’s conditions and is good for our health and wellbeing.”

Rhonda Richardson, Fit 4 U Project Officer with the Southern Trust explains: “Fit 4 U aims to empower people with physical/sensory disabilities to improve their health through participation in a range of physical activity and leisure opportunities. Archery is a very inclusive sport, you can participate from a seated position or standing and different sized bows are available to suit different needs.”

This event was co-ordinated by the Fit 4 U Project and facilitated by Sport NI funded Active Communities coaches.

The Fit 4 U Project is a Southern Health and Social Care Trust led partnership project, which involves a range of partners including, the five Councils, Armagh, Bainbridge, Craigavon, Dungannon and Newry & Mourne and service users with disabilities.
