29 May 2008Hold the Front Page! The first edition of ‘Manor Mag’ has been published by the editorial team at Manor Day Centre in Lurgan. The 12-page magazine has been designed in a pocket-size format with a clear typeface and attractive colour photographs. Seamus Magill, who is one of the eight-person editorial team, says, “We feel this magazine is attractive and has topical articles which will appeal to attenders, carers, friends and the general public. Every member of the team has special interests, talents and abilities and we’ve used our skills to generate informative articles and to write new poetry. The history and folklore of Lurgan is my special interest and it’s great to see our work in print.” Briege Molloy adds, “We really enjoyed working as a team, making decisions on the content, learning about the layout for printing and, with any project involving a computer, overcoming technical problems. We are very proud of our first edition and we are enthusiastic about the future of the magazine. I wrote the articles on forthcoming events and activities at Manor Centre and along with the editorial team, I’ve really looking forward to researching other information for the next edition.” Other features include a poem written by Kieran Halfpenny entitled Little Boy Blue; three ways to help live with arthritis; the importance of healthy eating for improving well being, managing weight and reducing the risk of developing illness and serious disease; and Door-2-Door Transport, a new urban bus service for people with disabilities and for people who find it difficult to use mainstream public transport. Manor Mag will be published every three months with a monthly information sheet updating on projects and events explains Amadeu Coimbra. He adds, “The team put a lot of work into the magazine and we are very grateful to everyone who helped us in getting it printed especially student social worker Emma-Jane McGarrell and senior daycare worker Melvin Purdy.” |
