23 May 2008Boost Better Breaks AwardsChildren from Pre School Facilities, Primary and Special Schools received prizes sponsored by the Southern Investing for Health Partnership at a special Boost Better Break Awards ceremony in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, Newry. Pupils from primary schools throughout the Southern Health and Social Care Trust area were invited to sing a song or hum a tune on the theme of healthy break times, and the winning entrants performed at the ceremony. The winning Primary School entry was - Saint Brigid’s Primary School Glassdrummond with their song ‘Healthy Bodies’. Second prize went to St Saint Joseph’s Primary School Galbally ‘Any fruit Will Do’. Third prize-winner was Lough Road Learning Centre Craigavon with ‘Boost Better Breaks’ and Our Lady’s Primary School Tullysaran was highly commended for their entry of ‘Healthy For Me’. Pre-schools were invited to submit posters and the winning entry was Ashgrove Nursery School Newry. Second prize went to Peatlands Playgroup Birches, Craigavon, third prize Clady Tiny Tots Playgroup Armagh. Special Schools for the first time were invited to submit posters and the winning entry was - Class I Donard School Banbridge, Second prize went to S3 Rathor School Newry, third prize Jason McCabe, Sperrinview School Dungannon. Michele Oliver, Clinical Director, Community Dental Service said: “We are delighted that the Boost Better Breaks awards this year took place during National Smile Month and would like to thank all of the facilities who made such an effort in participating. By promoting healthier food and drink choices instead of sugary alternatives at break times we will encourage children to make good decisions from an early age which will hopefully lead to a healthier future for them.” |
