Local people benefit from health fairs

Armagh and Dungannon Health Action Zone has organised health fairs throughout the area to promote health and wellbeing within the community.

The events which took place in Armagh, Dungannon and Coalisland marked the beginning of a three year health and wellbeing programme funded by the Department of Social Development.

The health fairs gave people the chance to have a health check and sample complementary therapies. A range of exhibitors provided Information on smoking cessation, cancer awareness, physical activity, healthy eating, home and community safety, drugs and alcohol, and positive mental health.

Sonya Slevin, Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator for Armagh and Dungannon Health Action Zone says: “Targeted at Neighbourhood Renewal Areas, the health and wellbeing programme aims to give people the chance to access services, skills and information they need to improve their own health and wellbeing, that of their family and that of their community.

“Through the programme we hope to develop and deliver a range of health related information, advice and training sessions and offer physical activity initiatives to these areas. Falls prevention, fuel poverty and dealing with antisocial behaviour will also be covered in the programme.”
