29 January 2008Boys’ Brigade Company bestows gift to Lurgan HospitalThe 2nd Lurgan Boys’ Brigade Company from High Street Methodist Church has presented a lectern to Lurgan Hospital to commemorate the Company’s centenary. Lorna Dilworth, Senior Manager at Lurgan Hospital, says “There has been a long association between the facility and the Company. For many years the boys from 2nd Lurgan helped elderly patients get to the Sunday morning service, distributed hymn books and helped in numerous other ways. Nothing was ever too much trouble.” Over the years members of the Company participated in community activities which were credited to the President’s and Queen’s badges, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Current and former members of the Boys Brigade have also donated £5,000 to Rev David Nixon, a Methodist Missionary in Choma, Zambia, for a new classroom. Rev Nixon has established a vocational training centre for teenagers in the region who have been orphaned as a result of AIDS. A group of volunteers from High Street Methodist will go out later this year to help build the new classroom. |
