New Years Resolution – to Stop Smoking?

The Southern Health and Social Care Trust is offering a free six-week course for people who would like to stop smoking as a new year’s resolution.

“Many people find giving up smoking a lonely process. Motivation, encouragement and holistic support are vital to stop smoking and stay stopped,” says Cathy Murray, Stop Smoking Specialist for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust.

A number of health professionals will be at hand offering a variety of therapies which help with smoking cessation including stress management, oral health, nutrition, physical education, colour breathing for relaxation and Carbon Monoxide monitoring.

Cathy adds: “The first thing we will provide is an assessment of the stage a person is at. Our aim is to provide motivation and encouragement to set a quit date. Past experience shows that the group attracts a vast cross-section of people who smoked including professional women, men, students, mothers and fathers. The service is very user-friendly and suits all individual needs.”

The course will commence on Wednesday 9 January 2008 in the Charlemont Hotel, English Street, Armagh, 7.00pm – 8.30pm. Spot prizes will be awarded to help motivate and reward participants throughout the programme.
